Originally from Rhode Island, Christa obtained her fine arts degree from Rhode Island College. She also attended the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design where she studied graphic arts and design. With every intention of pursuing a career in the arts and professional photography, her intrigue with personal style and beauty proved overwhelming, and not surprisingly so given her family background. Christa became Director of Art and Public Relations for Blaine Hair Schools, which was founded by her uncle and beauty industry icon, Henri Blain. Although her formal responsibilities at Blaine principally involved photography, graphic design and
public relations, Christa soon desired to work directly with clients. Christa left Blaine and started her career as a stylist on Newbury Street in Boston. Drawing on her background in the arts and sense of the palette, Christa soon focused her practice on producing the perfect
color (and cut). For the past 15 years, Christa has worked with clients to bring warmth, depth and richness to their natural haircolor. Always learning, Christa regularly attends courses sponsored by Beth Minardi in New York City to stay abreast of the latest techniques in hair fashion and color. “The most important part of each client contact is learning what the client wants—the look, the color, the cut. Does the client want the look to be bold or subtle, adventurous or quiet. I spend time trying to understand exactly where the client wants to be. Then, it is up to me to bring my experience and knowledge of color (and cutting) to ensure the desired result. At the heart, haircoloring and cutting is essentially the same as using a palette of color and a brush to create art. At the end of the process, there’s nothing like seeing a client smile when they look in the mirror. I guess that’s why I absolutely love what I do.”
